Learner's Blog
Hiya,
Congratulations on your choice in picking GKTS as your college experience!
GKTS is based at 91 Railway Road, WN7 4AD it’s a college to help you plan for adult hood or gain GCSE’s you have missed out on.
If you didn’t know your way all you had to do was make your way to Leigh bus station on the bus and it’s a 2-minute walk from there.
At GKTS on your arrival you would sign in at reception, write your name time and signature on the sheet after that has been done you would either go sit in the learner lounge or go to your classroom depending on the time you enter the center - classes start at 9am.
Depending on what class you’re in and who your tutor is depends on where you are in the center Debbie and Ryan’s classes are upstairs on the first floor and Kim’s class on the second floor in the classroom.
Oh . . . here we go my experience here at GKTS…so I started in January 2024 with no GCSEs to my name I started here abit uncomfortable at the start and as I started to become myself, I was flying through work completed all my units I had to do and im now leaving with math’s and English level 2 qualifications and it’s only start of July 24. I’ve completed all this in 7 months I would like to thank my tutor Debbie for getting me where I am today, I appreciate the GKTS staff so much, they’re all amazing and helped me become who I am in 7 months!
How I feel my course has gone…….
My course has gone amazing I was able to understand the material, achieved all qualifications and goals set for me. My tutor Debbie of course was amazing, she was polite, supportive, and helpful towards me, thank you, I appreciate it 😎
Have fun on your course at GKTS I hope you like it!

Break Time
different classes have different times for break as it gets overcrowded but as for dinner time we all have the same time and that is 12 o’clock till quarter to one. The Centre offers you a back garden to go in to have a smoke, use your e-cigarette or even get some fresh air. As I’ve mentioned we have a learner lounge you can sit in there and chill have time to yourself or communicate with other learners in the center.
Rules
The rules the one we didn’t want but have come across is no vaping in the center, no cans of pop in class - lid bottles only, speak with respect, no eating during class times only break and dinner, be punctual and mobile phones off/on silent during classes.
Recommendations
My recommendations about here is that it’s a smaller environment, will suit you better and in classes with people your speed, understanding everyone, naturing and being supportive.
New Learner Guide
Where is GKTS? The centre is located at 91 Railway Road in Leigh.
On arrival to the centre, you should make sure to always sign in at the front desk and then go to your class or into the learner lounge.
After arrival you should settle down in class and get ready for the activities that have been planned for the day. This could relate to English, math’s, digital skills, equality and diversity or employability skills, each one will be something interesting.
At the centre there are counselling services available if you would like to speak with a trained counsellor about any issues that you are dealing with. There is a kitchen that you can use to prepare drinks and lounge for breaks/dinner time. At lunches and breaks you can either stay in your class or the learner lounge. You can also go out and get food from in town.
Some of the rules at the centre include: No smoking, no drinking cans or eating food in class, be respectful to others and make sure that you are on time at the start of the class and after breaks.
The staff here are very nice and helpful – if you are stuck on something don’t be afraid to ask for help.
I feel excited to be moving on but also sad because I have enjoyed all the things that I have completed here at GKTS, they have made me understand a lot about the world around us, preparing for work, building my communication and socialising skills, I have also passed my level 2 qualifications – the ones I didn’t get at school but need for my next course.
I am soooooo pleased with this and grateful for the help and support that I have been given throughout my time here, I will miss my tutor and other learners in the class, but I know that I am ready for the next part of my plan.
